advanced calling

To use voice commands for calling, see page 48.

1-touch dial
To call phonebook entries with Speed No. 1 to 9, hold the key for the entry (1 to 9).

Note: To speed dial phonebook entries 10 and above, see “speed dial” on page 69.

To add a new phonebook entry, see page 25. To edit the Speed No. for a phonebook entry, see page 75.

set 1-touch dial list
You can set 1-touch dial to call the entries in your phone’s phonebook or Fixed Dial list: Press > Settings > Initial Setup > Speed Dial > Phone Memory or Fixed Dial.

speed dial
Speed dial a phonebook entry:
Enter the speed dial number, press #, then press .

Note: To 1-touch dial phonebook entries 1 to 9, see “1-touch dial” on page 68.

To add a new phonebook entry, see page 25. To edit the Speed No. for a phonebook entry, see page 75.

Tip: If you forget Aunt Mildred’s speed dial number, press > Phonebook, scroll to her entry, and press the centre key.

set speed dial list
You can set speed dial to call the entries in your phone memory phonebook or your Fixed Dial list: Press
> Settings > Initial Setup > Speed Dial > Phone Memory or Fixed Dial.

attach a phone number
Dial an area code or prefix for a phonebook number, then press Options > Attach Number.

notepad
The last number you entered is stored in the notepad. You can use the notepad to “jot down” a number during a call for later use. To see the notepad:
Press > Recent Calls, press the Options key, then > Notepad.
• To call the number, press .
• To create a phonebook entry with the number in the No. field, press the Store key.
• To open the Dialling Menu to attach a number or insert a special character, press Options.

international calls
If your phone service includes international dialling, press and hold 0 to insert your local international access code (indicated by +). Then, press the keypad keys to dial the country code and phone number.

hold a call
Press Options > Hold to put all active calls on hold.

mute a call
Press the Mute key (if available) or Options > Mute to put all active calls on mute.

call waiting
When you’re on a call, you’ll hear an alert if you receive a second call.
Press to answer the new call.
• To switch between calls, press the Switch key.
• To connect the two calls, press the Link key.
• To end the call on hold, press Options > End Call On Hold.
To turn the call waiting feature on or off, press > Settings > In-Call Setup > Call Waiting > On or Off.

conference call
During a call:
Dial next number, press , press the Link key.

transfer a call
During a call:
Options > Transfer, dial transfer number, press

call diverting
Set up or cancel call diverting:
> Settings > Call Divert

restrict calls
Restrict outgoing or incoming calls:
> Settings > Security > Restrict Calls

call barring
Restrict outgoing or incoming calls:
> Settings > Security > Call Barring

change phone line
If you have a dual-line-enabled SIM card, you can change your line to make and receive calls from your other phone number.

fixed dial
When you turn on fixed dialling, you can call only numbers stored in the fixed dial list.
Turn fixed dialling on or off:
> Settings > Security > Fixed Dial Use the fixed dial list:
> Tools > Dialling Services > Fixed Dial

quick dial
Dial preprogrammed phone numbers:
> Tools > Dialling Services > Quick Dial

DTMF tones
Activate DTMF tones:
> Settings > Initial Setup > DTMF
To send DTMF tones during a call, just press number keys or scroll to a number in the phonebook or recent calls lists and press Options > Send Tones.

phonebook

Note: Your phonebook can show you the entries stored in your phone’s memory or on your SIM card. To choose which entries you see, press > Phonebook, then press Options > View. You can select Phone & SIM Card, SIM Card, or Phone Contacts.

speed dial a phonebook entry
You can assign the keys 1 to 9 to phonebook entries. Then, when you press and hold a key, your phone calls the entry.

Note: Your service provider might have assigned some keys, such as 1 for your voicemail number. You can only speed dial phonebook entries that are stored on your phone (not on your SIM card).

To assign a speed dial key, press > Phonebook and scroll to the phonebook entry. Then, press Options > Add to Speed Dial and pick a speed dial key.
To use a speed dial key, just press and hold the key in your home screen.

edit or delete a phonebook entry
Edit a number stored in the phonebook:
> Phonebook, scroll to the phonebook entry, and press Options. You can select Edit Contact, Delete Contact, or other options.

Shortcut: In the phonebook, press keypad keys to enter the first letters of an entry you want. You can also press *and# to see the entries you use frequently, or entries in other categories.

set ringer ID for a phonebook entry
Assign a ring alert (ringer ID) to an entry:
> Phonebook > entry, then press Options > Edit Contact > Ringer ID > ringer name

Note: The Ringer ID option isn’t available for entries stored on the SIM card.

Activate ringer IDs:
> Settings > Ring Styles > style Detail > Ringer IDs

set picture ID for a phonebook entry
Assign a photo or picture to show when you receive a call from an entry:
> Phonebook > entry, then press Options > Edit Contact > Picture > picture name

Note: The Picture option isn’t available for entries stored on the SIM card.

Show entries as a text list, or with picture caller ID photos:
> Phonebook, then press Options > Setup > View by > view name

> Phonebook > entry, then press Options > Edit Contact > Category > category name

Note: The Category option isn’t available for entries stored on the SIM card.

When you open your phonebook, press *or# to see your categories.

You can show all entries, entries in a predefined category (Business, Personal, General, VIP), or entries in a category you create.

Shortcut: When you open your phonebook, press *or# to see your categories.

create a new category
> Phonebook, then press Options > Manage Contacts > Edit Categories > [New Category]
Enter the category name, and select its members from your phonebook entries.

edit a category
> Phonebook, then press Options > Manage Contacts > Edit Categories
Scroll to the category name and press Options > Edit Category.
You can edit the category name, members, ringer ID, or picture. Your phone uses the ringer ID and picture whenever you receive calls from numbers in the category.

set speed number for a phonebook entry
Set the Speed No. for an entry:
> Phonebook, scroll to the entry, and press Options > Edit Contact > Speed No.
To speed dial an entry, enter the speed dial number, press #, then press . To use 1-touch dial, see page 68.

set primary number or address for a phonebook entry
Set the primary number for an entry with multiple numbers:
s >nPhonebook, scroll to the entry, press Options > Set Primary > number or address

Note: The Set Primary option isn’t available for entries stored on the SIM card. Tip: In Primary number view mode, you can still peek at other numbers stored for the same name. Scroll to the name and press left or right to see the other numbers.

create group mailing list
You can put several phonebook entries in a group mailing list, then send a message to the list. To create a list:
> Phonebook, then press Options > Create New > Message List
You can select the list name as an address for multimedia messages.

Note: A Message List cannot include entries stored on the SIM card.

sort phonebook list
Set the order in which entries are listed:
> Phonebook, then press Options > Setup > Sort by > sort order
You can sort the phonebook list by First Name or Last Name.

copy one phonebook entry
Copy an entry from the phone to the SIM card, or from the SIM card to the phone:
> Phonebook, scroll to the entry, press Options > Copy to SIM Card or Copy to Phone

copy multiple phonebook entries
Copy multiple phonebook entries between the phone and SIM card:
> Phonebook, scroll to one entry, press Options > Select Multiple to, then select Copy to SIM Card or Copy to Phone

send phonebook entry in a text message
Send a phonebook entry in a text or email message:
> Phonebook, scroll to the entry, press Options > Send Contact

send phonebook entry in a multimedia message
Send a phonebook entry in a multimedia message:
> Phonebook, scroll to the entry, press Options > Share Phonebook Entry > Multimedia Msg

send phonebook entry to another device
Send a phonebook entry to another phone, computer, or device:
> Phonebook, scroll to the entry, press Options > Share Phonebook Entry

print phonebook entry over Bluetooth™ connection
You can use a Bluetooth wireless connection to send a phonebook entry from your phone to a printer.
> Phonebook
Scroll to the entry you want to print, and press Options > Print.
You cannot print a Mailing List. For more about Bluetooth connections, see page 33.

messages

send text message
> Messages > New Message

send email
> Messages > New Message > New Email

send voice message
> Messages > New Message > New Voice Msg
To record the voice message, press the Record key, speak, then press the Stop key.
Your phone inserts the voice recording into a message and lets you enter email addresses or phone numbers to receive the message.

use a multimedia template
Open a multimedia message with preloaded animations:
> Messages > New Message > Multimedia Templates

read and manage messages
> Messages > Message Inbox
Icons next to each message indicate if it is read or unread. Icons can also indicate if the message is locked , urgent , or low priority , or if it has an attachment .
To Reply, Forward, Lock, or Delete a message, scroll to it and press Options.
To open a message, press . Then, you can press Options to use or store any phone numbers, email addresses, Web sites, or files in the message.

read and manage email
> Messages > Email Msgs

Go to a multimedia message page, or scroll to an object in a message, then:

print message over Bluetooth™ connection
You can use a Bluetooth wireless connection to send a message from your phone to a printer.
> Messages > Message Inbox, Email Msgs, Outbox, or Drafts
Scroll to the message you want to print and press Options > Print.
You cannot print message Templates. For more about Bluetooth connections, see page 33.

store text messages on your SIM card
To store incoming text messages on your SIM card, press:
s >eMessages, then press Options > Setup> Message Setup > Text Msg Setup > Default Storage > SIM Card

edit email settings
You can edit the settings for your Email connections. To use email, you need to store your email User ID and Password.
> Messages, then press Options > Setup > Email Msg Setup > Account Settings
If you have more than one email account, select an account to edit.
Your phone shows a list of email settings.
Here is where you store your email User ID and Password.

Note: To create a new account, select New Entry in the Account Settings list. Your display shows a folder for each email account under > Messages > Email Msgs.

browser messages
Read messages received by your micro-browser:
> Messages > Browser Msgs

info services
Read subscription-based information services messages:
> Messages > Info Services

instant messaging

log in
>IM
Select an IM account, or select [New Account] to set up an IM account.

log in automatically
>IM, press the Options key, then > Offline Settings
Turn on Auto-Login to start the IM login whenever you select > IM. Turn on Power-On Login to start the IM login whenever you turn on your phone.

set IM ring style
Select a ring or vibration for new IM messages and contact alerts.
>  Settings > Ring Styles > style Detail > IM

Set menu language:

Caution: Master clear erases all information you have entered (including phonebook and datebook entries) and content you have downloaded (including photos and sounds) stored in your phone’s memory. After you erase the information, you can’t recover it.

call times & costs

Network connection time is the elapsed time from the moment you connect to your service provider's network to the moment you end the call by pressing . This time includes busy signals and ringing.

The amount of network connection time you track on your resettable timer may not equal the amount of time for which you are billed by your service provider. For billing information, contact your service provider.

Show call timers:

Show time or cost information during a call:
>  Settings > In-Call Setup > In-Call Timer

Show call cost trackers:
>  Recent Calls, press the Options key, then > Call Cost

handsfree

Note: The use of wireless phones while driving may cause distraction. Discontinue a call if you can’t concentrate on driving.
Additionally, the use of wireless devices and their accessories may be prohibited or restricted in certain areas. Always obey the laws and regulations on the use of these products.

speakerphone
Activate the speakerphone during a call:
Press the Speaker key (if available, or Options > Spkrphone On).

auto answer (car kit or headset)
Automatically answer calls when connected to a car kit or headset:
>  Settings > Car Settings or Headset > Auto Answer

voice dial (headset)
Enable voice dial with headset send/end key:
>  Settings > Headset > Voice Dial

auto handsfree (car kit)
Automatically route calls to a car kit when connected:
>  Settings > Car Settings > Auto Handsfree

data & fax calls

To connect your phone with a USB cable, see page 38.

send data or fax
Connect your phone to the device, then place the call through the device application.

receive data or fax
Connect your phone to the device, then answer the call through the device application.

talk then fax
Connect your phone to the device, enter fax number, press Options > Talk then Fax, then press to make the call.

using sync
You can call a SyncML Internet server and synchronise your phonebook and datebook entries with the server.
To set up an Internet sync partner, press >  Connection > MOTOSYNC > Sync > [New Entry]. Enter the server details, including Server URL (you can omit http://) and Data Path (the folder below the URL where your data is stored).
To synchronise files with a partner you set up, select the partner from the list in >  Connection > MOTOSYNC > Sync.

setting up Exchange ActiveSync
You can use the Internet to synchronise your phone’s phonebook and datebook entries with an email account on a Microsoft® Exchange 2003 Server.
You need to know the email account’s user name and password, the Microsoft® Exchange server name, and the user domain name. Confirm that the Mobility option is enabled on the email account, and that data service is activated with your phone service provider.
To set up an ActiveSync partner, press >  Connection > MOTOSYNC > Exchange, press the Options key, then > Setup. Enter the server details, including Server Name, Domain, and the Web Session to use. To set up a Web Session, see page 93.

using Exchange ActiveSync
Once you set up an Exchange ActiveSync partner, you can schedule your phone to synchronise with the account automatically.
To schedule synchronisation, press >  Connection > MOTOSYNC > Exchange, press the Options key, then > Auto Sync Setup.
Enter the time and days you want your phone to synchronise.

network settings
See network information and adjust network settings:
>  Settings > Network

software update
Your service provider can send updated phone software over the air to your phone. When your phone receives a software update, you can choose to install it later. To install the software update later:
>  Settings > Phone Status > Software Update > Install Now

personal organiser

set alarm
>  Tools > Alarm Clock

turn off alarm
When an alarm happens:
To turn off the alarm, press the Disable key or . To set an eight-minute delay, press the Snooze key.

Note: The Snooze key is available only if the phone is already powered on when the alarm sounds.

add new datebook event
>  Tools > Datebook, scroll to the day, press , press Options > Create New Event

see datebook event
See or edit event details:
>  Tools > Datebook, scroll to the day, press , press the View key

event reminder
When an event reminder happens:
To see reminder details, press the View key.
To close the reminder, press the Exit key.

send datebook event to another device
Send a datebook event to another phone, computer, or device:
> Tools > Datebook, scroll to the day, press, scroll to the event, press Options > Send

print datebook month, week, or day over Bluetooth™ connection
You can use a Bluetooth wireless connection to send a datebook month, week, or day from your phone to a printer.
> Tools > Datebook
Go to the month, week, or day view and press Options > Print.

create voice record
Create a voice record:
Press and hold the voice command key, speak into the phone, release the voice command key.

Note: Recording phone calls is subject to varying Laws regarding privacy and recording of conversations. Always obey the laws and regulations on the use of this feature.

play voice record
Play back a voice record:
> Multimedia > Voice Records

calculator
> Tools > Calculator

currency converter
> Tools > Calculator, then press Options > Exchange Rate
Enter exchange rate, press the OK key, enter amount, and press Options > Convert Currency.

security

SIM PIN

Caution: If you enter an incorrect PIN code three times before the correct code, your SIM card is disabled and your display shows SIM Blocked.

Lock or unlock the SIM card:
> Settings > Security > SIM PIN

lock feature
> Settings > Security > Lock Application

manage certificates
Enable or disable Internet access certificates stored on your phone:
> Settings > Security > Certificate Mgmt
Certificates are used to verify the identity and security of Web sites when you download files or share information.
